About us
Cuba Private Travel is a private travel company that creates extraordinary bespoke experiences on the Caribbean island of Cuba.
We are local experts – our owner and managing director, Irish born Johnny Considine, lives right here in Havana and has more than fifteen years of Cuban travel experience. We know the whole island well and especially it’s people. We don’t work anywhere else.
Our grass-roots connections are second to none and include experts in every facet of Cuban society, from literature, dance, economics, history and farming to fine art, fishing, nature and sports. In addition, our outstanding personal connections with the fincas, hotels, bars and restaurant owners across the country ensure that we will always know where the very best tables, rooms and villas are at any given time.
It is our long established and trusted network that enables us to work so closely with our clients to create specially tailored Cuban experiences. We aim to capture the multi-faceted magic of Cuba in ways that are personally relevant and memorable. No two holidays from Cuba Private Travel will ever be the same.
Our suggested itineraries are turned around in twenty-four hours and all recommended accommodation is held for a minimum of 72 hours. They include access to guides, interpreters, insider know-how and, of course, a 24-hour concierge and comply with U.S. Treasury Department rules. We hope that exploring the travel ideas on our website will inspire you to visit the island we love.
Johnny's travels started at 18 with a summer in the Catskills working a summer job at a Hasidic Summer Camp. An intoxicating leap from the sleepy Ballyhoura hills in Co Limerick. A return to early '80s New York was irresistible followed by London and Hong Kong. The objective always to travel and immersion in a completely new culture. Backpacking for a few years from Vancouver to Rio, a couple of years in India following the weather from south to north and a lot of sitting in Ashrams on the way. An introduction to the travel business came randomly via Louise Firouz in northern Iran who needed a guide at short notice to help lead a group riding with the nomads on the Turkmenistan border. Another random meeting led to a talent scouting job in Cuba to search for local musicians to tour Europe and launch Havana Club. The job took Johnny to the four corners of Cuba and he was hooked. The last few years he has honed that knowledge and shaped his contacts and friends into Cuba Private Travel and Wild Cuba, working with travel agents to create and deliver the best vacation experience available in the country today.
