Cuba Private Travel has joined forces with the Havana Glasgow Film Festival and ICAIC, (Cuban Film Institute) in a project to salvage and digitise precious Cuban archive films, originals of which are in danger of being lost forever.
We start with 4 iconic documentaries by Cuba’s first female director, Sara Gomez. She was a student of the great Tomas Alea and her work includes ‘Ire a Santiago’ and ‘Isla del Tesoro’. After completing several shorts, Sara Gomez began making her first feature, the docufiction masterpiece, De Cierta Manera. Sadly, her tragic death due to an asthma attack in 1974 at only 31, left the film unfinished. The film was finished according to Gomez’ original vision and became one of Cuba’s masterpieces of film art.
Cuba Private Travel will make a donation of 50 USD from each itinerary towards this project.
